China offers US its cooperation against Cyber Security breaches

china-usPeople’s Republic of China has officially offered United States to join hands against Cyber Security breaches. In a speech on Monday, Barak Obama administration’s National Security Advisor, Tom Donilon demanded China to put a full stop to China’s alleged cyber attacks on US. He said that China needs to take serious measures against such attacks who, security experts believe, appear to be originating from China. Obama further said it can put trade relations between the two countries at stake.

Donilon said “From the President on down, [cyber security] has become a key point of concern and discussion with China at all levels of our governments. And it will continue to be”. He added that the US seeks three things from the Chinese government. “First, we need a recognition of the urgency and scope of this problem and the risk it poses – to international trade, to the reputation of Chinese industry and to our overall relations. Second, Beijing should take serious steps to investigate and put a stop to these activities. Finally, we need China to engage with us in a constructive direct dialogue to establish acceptable norms of behaviour in cyberspace.”

On Tuesday, China’s Foreign Minitry spokesman Hua Chunying iterated China’s position on this issue that it has nothing to do with the attacks. He said that “Cyberspace needs rules and cooperation, not wars. China is willing to have constructive dialogue and cooperation with the global community, including the United States.”

Chinese Army’s special unit is being accused of its involvement in cyber security attacks to major US companies in past months. Chinese government denied all such allegations and claimed that they are against cyber security breaches and they themselves have been the victims of attacks that appeared to be originating from US.
